What You Will Do

As an Associate with St. John Health-MI, you will have the opportunity to, under limited supervision, be responsible and accountable for all routine construction, repair and maintenance of building components and wooden structures such as furniture, partitions and cabinets using hand and power tools as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, constructs, installs, and adjusts cabinets, desks, doors, partitions and other wooden constructs using carpentry hand and power tools. Sets up and maintains carpentry shop. Coordinates activities to accomplish carpentry work. Provides direction, guidance, and instruction to newer employees. Assures that all installations are in conformance with applicable codes and regulations.

  • Keeps a sufficient inventory of lumber and hardware on hand as well as other supplies such as nails, screws, and glue.

  • Receives assignments and work orders. Reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. Sketches plans and/or reads and interprets blue prints and specifications and estimates time, material, and cost requirements. Requisitions materials and supplies; prepares and assembles materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed. Operates, runs, tends, adjusts, regulates, calibrates machines, door hardware, and examines, cleans, tests, finished products and repairs.

  • Maintains all required records and documents relative to corrective maintenance activities. Maintains appropriate instruction manuals, schematics, sketches and blueprints. Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained.

  • Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner.

  • Applies cost-effective measures in order to improve efficiency and supports cost containment efforts while delivering a high quality service. Provides Values-Added customer service consistent with hospital policy.

  • Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe. Assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. Improve patient safety in the delivery of health care by understanding and applying the patient safety goals for SJPHS/Ascension of no preventable deaths or injuries.

  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to operate related power equipment.

What You Will Need

Education:

  • HS or Equivalent

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Trade School

  • Related trade school required Apprenticeship preferred

Work Experience:

  • Three to five years required.
