Walbridge Estimator / Senior Estimator - Concrete in Detroit, Michigan

Overview

Walbridge has an opening for a talented Estimator that will lead and develop detailed estimates through proposal submission for Self-Perform Concrete work. This position requires an exceptional working relationship with project stake holders, attention to detail, desire to learn and improve, and a competitive spirit. The Estimator will be handling multiple bids ranging from $20 K up to $20 M.

Responsibilities

  • Identify competitive edge strategies and follow through to project award.

  • Identify risks to a project; communicate and evaluate with the management team.

  • Quantify and price self-performed concrete, including formwork, rebar, concrete place and finish with relative productivity evaluation.

  • Quantify, budget and evaluate supporting trades such as excavation, piling, earth retention, dewatering, etc.

  • Obtain comparative quotations for materials and sub-contractor services.

  • Develop a project schedule from bid document information.

  • Effectively manage tasks and oversee team estimates.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of estimate and proposals.

  • Negotiate with Subcontractors/Suppliers and issue contracts and purchase orders.

  • Apply knowledge of contract structure, business law, insurance and bonding issues.

  • Review contractual requirements with supervisors and develops a plan for the project construction that is utilized as the basis of the cost estimating process.

  • Develop a thorough understanding and be familiar with the Corporate Safety Program and as it relates to concrete work.

  • Prepare complete concrete proposals including all required documentation for submission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or H.S. Diploma and equivalent professional training and experience required.

  • Three or more years successfully estimating Industrial concrete bids.

  • Strong knowledge of concrete related processes, methods and equipment requirements.

  • Strong knowledge and ability to develop scope requirements and issue subcontracts for civil work.

  • Understanding of skilled trade jurisdictions and classifications.

  • Understanding of Union, Open, and Merit shop work.

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of contract structure, business law, insurance and bonding issues.

  • Excellent leadership experience and communication skills.

  • Proficient computer application skills (Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, etc.).

  • Occasional travel
