The Detroit office of SmithGroup is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team. The SmithGroup Summer Internship Program is dedicated to the advancement of young professionals in the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, and Interior Design. As an intern at SmithGroup, you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with a wide-range of professionals. Selected students will spend approximately 12 weeks working as an intern in our Detroit, MI office. Students will be exposed to both the creative and business environments. Assignments will vary and include project research, site visits, computer production, design reviews, and assisting in marketing efforts. It is expected that candidates have basic hand drawing and computer software skills. Preferably, applicants have experience with Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Trimble SketchUp, Rhino, Vray, Lumion and Microsoft Office programs. Interns will return to their studies enriched by exposure to peers and professionals, and to the extraordinary opportunities in the profession of their choice. Working with us, you will: ulliAssist in modeling structural elements in Revit and the production of structural engineering documents./liliAssist a structural engineer or team of engineers on engineering tasks for a project, assuring that technical, schedule and hours-expended targets are met in accordance with client expectations and applicable professional standards./liliApply standard structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to accomplish engineering tasks./liliVisit construction sites as required for observation./liliInteract with our young engineers group, as well as, department discussions and development opportunities./liliSet priorities, multitask and work independently yet work collaboratively as a member of the structural engineering department./li/ul An ideal candidate: ulliMinimum 1 year of related experience and/or training./liliPursuing a degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of education and an emphasis in Structural Engineering; preferably with the intent to obtain a master's degree./liliProficient in Revit and Microsoft Office products./liliKnowledge of structural analysis software; RISA, RAM, Robot preferred./liliMust be detailed oriented and able to work in a team environment./liliMust be able to meet deadlines and work well number pressure./liliCommunicates and works professionally with all levels including co-workers, management, clients, etc./li/ul Our aim is to provide you with a work environment that will offer you an opportunity for leaning, personal growth, and leadership development.
