Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.Job Description/ Responsibilities:As a Gas Field Leader, you will be responsible for the safe and productive execution of Gas Operations and Maintenance field work, including operations and maintenance on distribution facilities and regulatory programs in Royal Oak, MI. The selected candidate will be responsible for construction activities, including blueprint reading, pipeline integrity and welding procedures, as well as leading team preparation and execution of written operating plans.The selected candidate must be able to collaborate with peers and supporting departments to create/maintain a work environment that supports each other to reach common goals of safety and health initiatives, compliance programs, and productivity. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:•Provide direct supervision to 8 to 15 union employees and participate in supervisory on-call responsibilities.•Lead and provide technical expertise to Gas Operation and Maintenance field employees.•Direct work activities to meet established work plans and objectives.•Facilitate team and department safety and agenda meeting.•Motivate, team-build and problem solve in a competitive business environment by continually encouraging sound employee decision-making.•Utilize strong communication skills and the ability to negotiate sensitive issues.•Provide strong leadership while promoting safe work behaviors.•Willingness to be on-call on a regular basis and work unusual hours through unplanned events is required.Requirements/Qualifications:•High school diploma or GED•Technical knowledge in Gas transmission, distribution and metering gained either through a technical field of study and/or through related work experience requiredThe following may set you apart:•An Associates Degree or higher education.•A strong knowledge of the working agreement, safe work practices and previous supervisory experience.•Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.•Natural gas utility experience with a strong mechanical background in maintenance of gas distribution facilities, emergency leak investigation and repair, damage repair and tapping/control work.Essential FunctionsResponsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of activities at the Gas Compression headquarters. Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and assists in the development of work orders for new work assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary inciden
