Job Information

Aerotek Administrative Estimator in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Job Opening: Estimator Admin

Schedule: Fulltime. Work Hours Monday - Friday 8-5 with OT

Terms: Long-term (Contract to Hire)

Pay: $21/hr - $24/hr (If construction experience is relevant)

Benefits: Yes (Health, Dental, Vision, 401k)

The Estimator does the bidding for their big AIA jobs. Their big jobs are like their stadium jobs. The jobs the AIA specialists work on. The Estimators go out to the job board (most of these are digital job boards) where the contractors will post the jobs they have on this bid board. If there is bid service equipment status, Stafford Smith is able to place a bid on the job. The estimator will be expected to pull the specs from the posting, pull up the blue prints, and figure out what Stafford Smith needs to bid out based on the estimate they give it.

No job is one in the same. Some of the projects they bid on have rebates in place with those companies. For example, if they spend 100 they will get back 40% -- so 40 dollars per 100 spent. Regardless, they will check out all opportunities on the job board, quote these jobs, then follow-up to see if they have been awarded the job. If they win, the estimator does the leg work and figures out the specs of what is needed and then that information goes off to the buyer, who then buys the equipment, who then goes to the sales support specialist to track and follow-up on those orders. This estimator is the first step in the sales process essentially. The bidding in the job boards can take place anywhere in the united states.

The estimator will also need to become familiar with the different restrictions on the jobs. For example some may require a certain percentage of women on the job, a certain number of minorities. If its in Detroit they might say you need 40% of workers from Detroit. Some will be electronic bids, some will be mailed out.

In order to do this job successfully, the right candidate needs to be familiar with reading blueprints. Not the CAD piece, but being able to look at a blueprint and think to themselves, " I know this is a kitchen, I know this is a bathroom." Need to know the basics of blueprints, along with the specs and being able to match information.

Estimating experience can come from any industry, but construction is most relevant for this particular role.

Workload is described as significant. Will be working with the sales team, sales support admins, and project managers. These are million dollar jobs that will be getting estimated. It is imperative this person is very organized, has good attention to detail, and a strong sense of urgency.
