Job Description

This position is the department wide expert to administer the MDOT Pavement Design Program. Statewide expert for the development of MDOT's pavement design policies, procedures, and guidance. Responsible to implement pavement design procedures throughout MDOT. Perform all complex project level pavement designs and oversee the development of all other project level pavement designs as required by the Life-Cycle Cost Analysis process in accordance with state law. Represent the Department and participate in workshops, meetings, committees, and conferences relating to the Pavement Design Program and the Pavement Engineering field. Perform duties of Project Manager for research projects. Develop, update, and oversee MDOT's Pavement Demonstration Program to ensure compliance with state law. Coordinate with the Regions and TSC's to ensure that appropriate projects are selected for demonstration projects. Interpret state law to determine eligible project types and other program aspects.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

Experience Five years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including three years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11, two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12, or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineering Licensed Specialist 13 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 13.

Additional Requirements and Information

Possession of a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.
