Up to 2 vacancies will be filled utilizing this posting.
Certified welder assisting in the repair of steel highway bridges which have been damaged by impacts from high load hits or weakened by fatigue or corrosion; installation of steel temporary supports for various structural elements; fabrication of temporary supports and steel plates for bolted repairs; and routine and emergency maintenance of all 12 MDOT owned moveable bridges. Duties are performed statewide on a 24-hour emergency basis. Welders may assist other emergency special crews as needed. This position requires statewide travel.
The duties of this position require the employee to drive vehicles and/or vehicle/trailer combinations weighing more than 26,001 pounds with occasional towing requirements (i.e. work trailer, etc.). The incumbent is required to operate aerial lift equipment in order to perform the duties of this position. Duties which will require the use of this equipment include but are not limited to welding of bridge components.
Required Education and Experience
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Four years of experience as a combination welder using arc and gas welding equipment.
Additional Requirements and Information
Position requires a valid CDL group A with either an N or X endorsement and must be qualified to operate air brakes or ability to obtain within 6 months.
