This is a challenging, rewarding and highly visible role responsible for a portfolio of expense and capital projects of <$300K TIC over the life cycle of a project; Utilization of Global Project Methodology from the refinement of scope in the Project Identification stage, to fabrication and field installation, through the Project Start up and Closure stages. Project responsibilities are across various MIOPS businesses including R&D facilities and process units. This role is a unique combination of coordinating engineering and design resources, scheduling, job planning responsibilities as well as coordination of skilled trades in conjunction with the SPM Project WAC.

The selected candidate will partner with operations personnel to develop concise project scopes, initiating and updating of the Small Project Execution Plan; coordination of all design and procurement activities and delivering as-build documentation to support plant operating discipline. The SPM uses the project scope with assistance of skilled trades to estimate and develop a SAP job plan along with the SP Work Planner. The SPM will identify and coordinate the appropriate type and amount of discipline engineering support required including P&ID's, equipment and piping specifications, equipment procurement, sketches and drawings from engineering resources. This includes project critical estimates for cost and labor and schedule.

The SPM follows projects to field installation; identifying the type and amount of various skilled trades required to complete the project on time and within budget. The SPM is supported by engineers, designers and skilled trades The SPM is expected to bridge the gap between engineering, construction and production. This involves working with the craft discipline leads such as pipefitter, electrical and mechanical leads to ensure the scope of the project is successfully and safely completed in the field and that design changes and scope creep are minimized. The SPM coordinates with peers to appropriately share limited craft resources to minimize overall cost and business impact.

The SPM has overall responsibility to ensure work is completed safely and cost effectively for both engineering and construction.

Specific Responsibilities of this SPM Role:

  • Drives project execution and coach team on application of the Global Project Methodology (GPM) work process.

  • Provides overall planning and organization during design and construction.

  • Analyzes project risks and develop mitigation plans.

  • The candidate must demonstrate an exceptional level of leadership and communication skills in order to keep engineering and plant partners informed during all stages of project execution.

  • Initiates, monitors, and updates the project schedule and estimate. Closely monitors project cost and progress. Manages change to established scope and baselines.

  • Identifies and takes corrective action to ensure the project goals for cycle-time, cost, and quality are met.

  • Demonstrate organizational skills with a proven ability to manage and track multiple tasks at any given time.

  • Flexibility and ability to deal with ever changing conditions and priorities. Be able to adapt to a variety of situations.

  • Coordinate and schedule team meetings for design and engineering resources

  • Perform team checks and schedule design package peer reviews

  • Prepare and issue construction packages

  • Schedule and facilitate contractor job walks

  • Ability to coordinate construction resources

  • Manage schedule and budget for engineering, procurement and contractor costs.

  • Interface with key building personnel to develop project scope

  • Facilitate bi-weekly meetings with project partners to review priorities, project status, costs, back log work and on holds.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial and/or commercial construction in a project management/leadership role.

  • In depth knowledge of one or more of the following: Civil, Structural, Piping, Mechanical, Instrumentation or Electrical construction.

  • Demonstrated coordination of design and engineering resources, contractor trade resources on multi-craft projects, or similar construction project leadership experience.

  • Must be willing and able to work in an environment where wearing safety equipment, such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes is required.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, project management or business management.

  • Familiarity with SAP and scheduling programs knowledge such as Primavera and Microsoft Project.
