Axalta Coating Systems Senior Project Manager - Capital Projects in Mount Clemens, Michigan

Axalta operates its business in two operating segments: Performance Coatings and Transportation Coatings, serving four end markets, including: Refinish, Industrial, Light Vehicle and Commercial Vehicle, across the following four regions: North America, EMEA, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

The Senior Project Manager will develop, manage, and execute major capital projects for the Global Engineering Group. Projects can be network projects reaching across multiple sites and regions. Manage capacity models for our manufacturing sites and networks. This role will be in the Global Engineering team working closely with business, operational and supply chain teams throughout Axalta to develop projects from concept to closure. This position reports to the Global Director, Global Engineering and Quality.

Operations Leadership Execution

  • Implements project execution plans to achieve safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives of the project.

  • Responsible for project objective set-up with business and other related function department and organizing technical information input to local engineering companies for project pre-phase reports preparation for government permits.

  • Supervises owner management team and contractors to implements applicable design codes, standards, practices, and contract definition in engineering design, procurement, construction, as well as project final inspection and acceptance till project handover to operation.

  • Leads procurement/contracting strategy, scope definition, bidding clarification, technical bidding evaluation etc. work with procurement support.

  • Oversees the implementation of Axalta’s standards, specification and best practices, and their alignment with local codes and standards.

  • Other specified work assigned by Global Engineering Teams

A Bachelor’s degree, in chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering is required; a certification in Project Management is preferred.

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in Project Management in Operations or Supply Chain Leadership roles.

  • Proven track record of success in leading multi-site, regional and/or global project initiatives

  • 10+ Years in a complex manufacturing space with high SKU space

  • Knowledgeable in SAP systems (S4 experience a Plus)

  • Prefer coatings or chemicals experience

  • Six sigma certification a plus Black Belt Preferred

  • 10+ years of experience leading and managing people

  • Able to work and influence collaboratively and effectively within a global and diverse population and achieve results.

  • A systemic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset that possesses strong communication skills

  • Minimum travel required. Project based travel up to 40%.
