MDOT is looking for a passionate, results-oriented leader to manage and support the Road and Municipal Utility Design Unit in the Bureau of Development. The role includes ensuring deadlines are met, meeting MDOT customer needs, and resolving complex issues within the Road and Municipal Utility Design Unit. The successful candidate will have great outreach skills to partner with MDOT’s Regions and TSCs, as well as other outside entities. The successful candidate will represent MDOT at public meetings, stakeholder meetings, county commissions, and township boards. Excellent communication skills are strongly preferred. Due to the diverse disciplines this manager supervises, strong leadership and coordination skills is a must. As a Design Unit Leader, supervise the Road and Municipal Utility Design Unit which furnishes construction plans and contract documents for transportation projects with a special emphasis on municipal utility design, rest area water supply design, rest area sanitary disposal design, roadway design, and freeway lighting design. The manager is charged with meeting deadlines, meeting MDOT customer needs, resolving complex issues to ensure efficient and accurate business practices/processes, project, and program implementation; managing budgets; and ensuring continued operations for delivery of MDOT services and products. This responsibility includes participating as a member of statewide design teams and committees. This position acts as a manager and is responsible for monitoring/managing project budgets and deadlines, directing team operations, ensuring the technical and personal development of employees and their commitment to customer service. The manager will also be reviewing unit plan sets and signing as needed on applicable portions of design. Position Description The work location will be determined based on the preferred candidate; however, the official work station will remain in Lansing.
